The man accused of firing at a West Melbourne police officer during an attempted traffic stop stood before a judge Wednesday and is being held without bond.

Joseph Bellinger is charged with attempted felony murder on a law enforcement officer, among other charges.

Police arrested Bellinger on Tuesday night, one day after the incident took place.

Dash-cam video captured the gunshots coming towards Officer Joseph Jones, who was attempting to pull over the car for speeding. The officer was not hurt.

The officer backed off when the first shots were fired, but then got closer trying to read the tag.

"As he got closer to the vehicle, the driver again shot multiple rounds towards Officer Jones," said Capt. Richard Cordeau of the West Melbourne Police Department.

The car was later abandoned and a home security camera caught the suspect running from the car in the middle of the road.
