A University of Central Florida student was found dead inside her dorm Tuesday, according to authorities.

Law enforcement was called around 10:30 a.m. when a family member from Jacksonville discovered 19-year-old Alyssa Michelle Lewis unresponsive in her living room at the Lake Claire apartments.

"We got a 911 call from some family members who had found a student and they called police," said UCF Police Department spokesperson Courtney Gilmartin. "We arrived within one minute, but there was very little we were able to do."

UCF Police and Orange County deputies do not believe the death is suspicious. There were no obvious signs of self-inflicted wounds or foul play.

According to investigators, Lewis's dorm-mates moved out Sunday for Winter Break. Lewis, a resident assistant, stayed behind to continue work. When her family didn't hear from her, they traveled from Jacksonville to check on her.

"It's been relatively quiet here on campus, that's why our focus has been on the resident assistant, who she's worked with and to those who are still here, reminding them that counseling services are still available," Gilmartin said.

While UCF police and the Orange County Sheriff's Office look for answers as to what happened to Lewis, the medical examiners office is preparing to conduct an autopsy.

“We offer our most sincere sympathies to Michelle’s family and loved ones, and we will make all of our resources available to support them,” said Adrienne Frame, UCF’s associate vice president and dean of students, in a statement.

UCF says counselors and victim advocates are available for students and family members.
