Two people are in the hospital after an SUV slammed into a tractor-trailer, shutting down West Oak Ridge Road east of Millenia Boulevard on Monday morning.

Orlando Police Department officers received the call at 6:19 a.m. and discovered an SUV on fire as it was underneath the semi tractor-trailer, stated Lt. Miguel Garcia of the OPD in an email to the media.

A person was in the SUV and was trapped, but an officer used multiple fire extinguishers to keep the person from burning, explained Garcia, adding that the Orlando Fire Department was able to put out the fire.

Two people from the SUV were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, officials with the Orlando Fire Dispatch told Spectrum News 13.

One person has life-threatening injuries while the other one has minor injuries, Garcia continued, also mentioning that the tractor-trailer driver was not hurt.

West Oakridge Road is closed between Millenia Boulevard and Harcourt Avenue and it is expected to be closed for several hours,

The Orlando Police Department's Traffic Homicide Unit and Crime Scene investigators will be investigating the accident.
