After being delayed by Hurricane Irma, Brevard nonprofits are honored for their community work all year long, including during the storm.

2-1-1 Brevard held its annual Parrish Medical Center Stars of the Space Coast awards ceremony at the King Center in Melbourne Friday afternoon.

This after being delayed from September due to Hurricane Irma.

Among the winners, volunteers who manned the group's 24-hour helpline during Irma, fielding more than 11,000 calls before, during and after the disaster that caused more than $200 million damage on the Space Coast.

Leaders tout the hard work of nearly 300 people who worked in the Brevard EOC at the height of the storm.

“We couldn't do the work that we do without the organizations that we refer to. So to have the opportunity to let them know how much we appreciate them and shine some light for the community in large to,” said Libby Donoghue with 2-1-1 Brevard. “It means a lot for us to be able to do that.”

Spectrum News 13's very own Greg Pallone was the emcee for this year's event.

Award winners

Winners have been named for the Parrish Medical Center Stars of Space Coast Awards to honor the “stellar work” of nonprofits, presented Friday by 2-1-1 Brevard:

  • Family Promise of Brevard for the Health First Supernova Award
  • Tom Kammerdener of Aging Matters in Brevard for the Hospice of St. Francis Superstar Award
  • Joe Steckler of Helping Seniors of Brevard for the Imperial Plaza/CBRE Superstar Award
  • Brevard Family Partnership for the Florida Power & Light Community Star Award
  • 2-1-1 hurricane volunteers Chris Brotemarkle, Geraldine Doyle and Keith Gee for the Publix All-Star Award
