More than a year since a well-known Pine Hills barbershop owner was shot to death, the search for his killer continues.

But those close to Brian "Big B" Berry are hoping a movie about his life and service to the community will ensure his legacy lives on.

"Barbers and Stylists of Orlando The Movie" is a closer glimpse into the life of Berry. His longtime good friend Greg Turner says many people didn’t know just how much Berry did for the community.

So Turner came up with the idea to make a movie about Berry’s life.

“People didn't really know a lot of great events that he was doing in the community — (to) stop the violence event, giving away shoes – we did many events," recalled Turner.

Berry fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning his own barbershop, Strictly Skillz, in Pine Hills.

But in October 2016, he was shot and killed when a gunman opened fire inside the barbershop. The case remains unsolved. Detectives with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office say it is still an active and open investigation.

On Monday night, people gathered on a red carpet at the Cobb Theater in downtown Orlando for a premiere of the movie based on Berry’s life.

"And although we lost him, his legacy is still here. That's one of the main reasons we put this project together," said Donna Davis, the movie’s co-director.

"We are going to keep his legacy going as long as we can. We can try to help a kid get out of trouble. There’s so much going on right now," said Turner.

While the premiere of the film was just a one-night showing, the movie's creators say there will be more showings in the near future.

They say anyone interested in future showings should keep a close eye on their Facebook page.
