Witnesses to the shooting death of a man shot multiple times in a Sanford backyard are refusing to speak to police, officials say.

The Sanford Police Department is looking for the shooter who killed Toby Martin, 28, on Willow Avenue at around 7:30 p.m.

Police say this is the fifth shooting in the city of Sanford just this week and they are frustrated.

They say no one is coming forward with information in any of those cases.

In Thursday night’s shooting, Martin was shot multiple times in the backyard of the house and police say there were multiple witnesses.

However, police say the witnesses refused to speak with them about what they saw.

Police received several 911 calls, reporting shots fired in the area, followed by another call that someone had been shot.

When paramedics arrived, they were unable to save Martin's life.

"We know Toby was in that backyard hanging out recreationally with friends around him, so we know friends were around him when he was shot and killed. What we are asking for those friends to come forward and give the vital pieces of information our investigators need to solve this murder," requested Bianca Gillet, public information officer with the Sanford Police Department.

Police say it is unclear if the shooter ran away and right now, they do not have a description of the suspect.

The Sanford Police Department hopes someone comes forward soon with information.
