A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a fiery crash Saturday morning in South Daytona, police said.

The crash happened just after 11 a.m. and involved a motorcycle and a car.

Gordon Allen Young III, 22, was riding his Suzuki GSX-R when he crashed into the rear of a Chevy Cavalier driven by 79-year-old Ida Cruciani, police said.

Young and his motorcycle caught on fire after the crash, police said. Bystanders were able to extinguish the flames.

Young, who was wearing a helmet, was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Witnesses said Young may have been driving in a reckless manner before the crash, according to police.

Cruciani, the driver of the car, was not injured.
