Rockledge Police are currently investigating a deadly shooting that took place this afternoon outside a local business off of Barton Boulevard.

The incident happened at Schlenker's Automotive, where the suspect allegedly killed one person and injured another, said police.

An employee inside the business who had a concealed weapon stepped outside and stopped the suspect by shooting at them, according to Lt. Donna Seyferth.

People that work and live in the area said that this incident is nothing they expect to see, and that their neighborhood is normally quiet.

"Never. The last thing that would cross my mind, you know, in this area," said Tim Cofer, who works nearby.

Cofer said he initially thought the gunshot sounds were sounds of mechanics working.

"I just heard about like six, seven or eight shots go off coming from around this area from the mechanic shop, and I thought it was maybe just a tools like maybe they were working on something or maybe like a little accident happened."

Rockledge police say they say they don't currently have a motive, however they don't believe that the suspect had any relation or knew anyone who worked inside the business.

"We're looking into the shooter to find out ... what is that person's history," said Lt. Seyferth. "If this is indeed random, that's very troubling."

The suspect was taken to the hospital with injuries, and he is currently in surgery.

Police said they will be looking at surveillance video to try to figure out exactly what happened.
