The circumstances surrounding the shooting, however, are in question.

Volusia County Sheriff's deputies responded to 1601 W. Akron Drive to aid Tyrese Talbert, who was found on his bedroom floor with a single gunshot wound through the right bicep, and into the upper-right chest just under the armpit. He was transported to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford where he was in critical condition.

Talbert's sister, Jakia Williams, initially said her brother had been shot by an unknown suspect, deputies said. She then changed her story and said the shooting was an accident but did not provide any consistent information, according to officials.

Talbert's brother, James E. Williams, 18, was with him at the time of the incident.

He told deputies that he and Tyrese were walking somewhere on Akron Drive when they heard a gunshot. The pair ran back to their residence. James could not give an accurate location of where they were when they heard the gunshot.

When the pair returned to their residence, Tyrese began to collapse, stating he could not breathe because he had been shot.

Deputies said Jakia's and James’ accounts of the incident were inconsistent. Authorities think James accidentally shot Tyrese while handling a firearm; however, James adamantly insisted this was not the case.

No gun was found at the home but live 9mm ammunition and a spent .45 caliber casing were found in the victim's bedroom.

The Crime Scene Unit responded and processed the scene.

Also, deputies used a K-9 to search around the home but did not find a gun.

The case remains under investigation.
