A Brevard County corrections deputy who the Sheriff's Office says stole less than $100 from an inmate has been jailed on fraud charges.

  • Felicia Renee Brown charged with fraud, held on $30,000 bond
  • Investigators say she used money to shop at Titusville-area stores

Felicia Renee Brown, 29, was fired by the Brevard Sheriff's Office on Friday and faces multiple charges, including scheme to defraud, official misconduct and criminal use of personal information.

About 10 days ago, an account clerk found a discrepancy with an inmate's release account. The inmate also told deputies they'd not received the money they were supposed to get upon release.

Investigators determined that Brown disbursed the money to a debit card she used at four stores in the Titusville area. Deputies said surveillance video shows Brown making the purchases. The total taken from the inmate's release account was less than $100, deputies said.

Brown, who had been with the Sheriff's Office since December 2013, was being held in jail on a $30,000 bond.
