As one of the busiest travel weekends of the year kicked off, Orlando International Airport unveiled a new digital display wall Wednesday aimed at helping travelers in an entertaining way.

The high-definition video-display wall shows pictures and videos unique to Central Florida, displays flight and travel-related information, guides passengers and plays casual games.

The display will also introduce a 3D digital mascot called Annie the Astronaut.

Airport officials said the character will help guide passengers as they walk from the new parking Garage C to the main terminal by giving them clues on the screen.

The HD video display wall can also be modified.

“We’re working with the airlines so they can introduce their own branding (to the display) so all of them will be unique," said Joe Furnari of Automation Software, The Authorities Information Technology Department. "Some airlines will have strictly marketing and showing their branding; others will show you more flight information, as well as the ticket counter positions.”

The goal is to have the video display technology next to every ticket counter in Terminal A.

The new digital display wall comes as almost 51 million Americans prepare to drive or fly at least 50 miles or more this holiday season, according to AAA.

Orlando International Airport officials project a 9 percent increase in travelers this year.

If you're heading to the airport, plan on how you are getting there, plan for parking, check in online and print out your boarding pass at home.

For security, the best suggestion is to come early and follow TSA carry-on guidelines.

There are also new rules this year because TSA is doing enhanced screenings on small electronics.

So far, passengers at OIA have not experienced any headaches.

"It's been really good here so far. It's pretty simple: Do check in on your phone and looking at security lines they are not too bad, so hopefully I will be able to get there on time," traveler Emily Rinehart said.

Parking at the airport is going to be a little bit easier this year as OIA recently opened a six-story parking garage at Terminal C.
