Lake County officials say there are some concerns about street lighting after someone carjacked a man in Mount Dora.

  • Carjacking happened earlier in November
  • Officials say carjacking was isolated incident

The carjacking happened earlier this month at about 1:30 in the morning on Egerton Court.

The victim told police a man pointed a gun at his face.

He told police he grabbed the gun but realized there were two other people involved, so he backed off.

Police found the car the next day in Eustis.

"We were absolutely horrified because it's so unusual for anything like that of any kind to happen here in Mount Dora," said Phil Barnard, owner of the Magical Meat Boutique on 3rd Avenue in Mount Dora.

Barnard says he had just left the restaurant when he found out it was one of his customers that had been carjacked.

"After that there was some concern about lighting and if there was proper lighting in the area," said Lisa McDonald with the City of Mount Dora.

City officials say the carjacking was an isolated incident but will be looking into doing a lighting study.

Council members will be asked to hire an outside consultant for the lighting study in January.
