A Central Florida day care center was destroyed by a fire early Wednesday morning in Apopka.

  • Learning Ladder day care destroyed by fire
  • No injuries were reported in Apopka blaze
  • Center had fire safety-related issues, resolved in July

No injuries were reported at the Learning Ladder day care, located at 1508 Clarcona Road, according to Orange County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Chelsea Ryan.

Firefighters said they received a call at about 1:18 a.m. at the day care.

Investigators have not said what they think caused the fire but they're looking at the electrical system inside the facility as a possible culprit.

As many as three dozen children attended the day care center, but they weren't there at the time of the fire.

In a June 2017 report, the Florida Department of Children and Families said the day care was "noncompliant" for several fire safety-related issues, which were cleared up by the following month:

  • "A written record of fire drills was not completed and/or did not include one drill during napping/sleeping times, one drill using alternate evacuation routes, or one in the presence of the licensing authority.
  • "The facility did not have the fire extinguisher serviced and retagged timely.
  • "The facility operator did not have a current fire safety inspection by the local fire authority."
