For the second time in three months, a Palm Bay little league has fallen victim to burglars.

The first time was the day Irma struck the Space Coast. The latest was just two days ago.

"They broke the lock, and snapped the latch of the front door," said Sal Ferranti of the Palm Bay West Little League. "And then it was a free for all."

The league is based at West Oaks Park on Lamplighter Drive.

Someone broke into their concession stand Sunday afternoon and made off with nearly $600 in snacks, candy and drinks.

"They stayed there and cooked something in the microwave while they were robbing the place," said Ferranti in disgust. "Strudels. I hope they enjoyed them. Last time was bad — they destroyed equipment, they broke stuff."

The last incident happened the day of Hurricane Irma, when one might think the storm would do damage.

Turns out, vandals smashed into the concession stand through the roller metal door and cut two holes to get inside.

The crooks didn't leave much untouched, trashing the inside, looking for money.

"To get nothing," Ferranti said. "They took very little food, just destroyed everything."

For Ferranti, he's been on the league board for 15 years, and all five of his kids have played in it.

He's spent time and effort trying to make the park nice for the 250 players who take to these fields.

Ferranti is upset kids are harming other kids in this way.

"Kids make choices, but there needs to be consequences," he said.

The league had to buy food out of pocket to sell for Monday night's game.

They are hoping someone will come forward with information about the break-ins.
