Melbourne Police Department recently arrested a suspect wanted after a standoff on Nov. 13 -- all thanks to the city's new traffic safety initiative.

Michael Dudley-Palmer was arrested last week after being stopped on a bicycle for a traffic violation.

Although he initially gave a fake name, police ran a live scan on him and positively identified him as the suspect wanted after the six-hour standoff on Pineapple Avenue where SWAT was called out.

Officers were enforcing a city-wide initiative called "Operation Street Smart" when Dudley-Palmer was arrested.

Dudley-Palmer was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, felony battery, providing false information and resisting arrest without violence.

The Nov. 13 standoff came from a reported domestic violence incident, where Dudley-Palmer and his girlfriend were allegedly in some type of dispute. The girlfriend got out OK, according to Melbourne Police.
