Latrell Jay is facing a DUI charge and was also cited for an improper lane change that resulted in a crash with a serious bodily injury.

The crash involving Officer Daniel Collier happened near the 1600 block of East Springs Blvd., the department said.

Police say Jay, 30, had a blood alcohol level at .234, almost three times the legal limit, when he was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu and struck Collier early Saturday morning.

The responding police officer described Jay as unsteady on his feet, and he walked away several times when officers instructed him to stay where he was, police said in a news release.

Emergency crews took Collier to Ocala Regional Medical Center for treatment.
