Dogs at a Brevard County animal shelter won't have to worry about empty tummies after a massive donation.

  • Brevard Humane Society gets dog food donation
  • Business owners donated truckload of food
  • Shelter still needs cat food, canned dog food

Last month we told you Brevard Humane Society, which had donated tons of dog and cat food to shelters struggling after Hurricane Irma, were running short of food as well.

Port Canaveral business owners Michelle Nicholas and Christopher McDonald heard about the shelter's plight and with the help of a wholesale trucking company, donated a truckload of 80-pound bags of dry dog food to the humane society's Intake and Adoption Center in Cocoa.

All told -- that's 40,000 pounds of food.

Brevard Humane Society says the food will go a long way toward keeping its no-kill shelter going.

The shelter also thanks the huge outpouring of support from the community overall -- but they still need wet and dry cat food and canned dog food.
