Students and teachers returned to Lake Minneola High School on Wednesday after a student shot himself on campus early Tuesday morning.

Wednesday was their first day back since the 17-year-old Seth Sutherland shot and killed himself. The incident happened near the school's bus loop at around 7:30 a.m. during a planned fire drill.

School officials say some students saw Sutherland shoot himself, but no one else was injured. The high school was placed on lockdown yesterday after the senior student shot himself.

Spectrum News 13 was told by school officials that there will be grief counselors on campus on Wednesday, with the focus being on suicide prevention and helping students cope with the loss of one their friends.

A local pastor says counselors and church staff will be at the school for anyone who needs someone to talk to.

"I would encourage, especially young people, to reach out and say I need help, because there are people that do understand and want to be there for you," said Brian Hammond, the senior pastor at the Church at South Lake, at a vigil held at the high school on church.
