The man questioned in the death of Winter Park personal assistant Jennifer Fulford will undergo a mental evaluation.

  • Scott Nelson was wanted for questioning in woman's death
  • Jennifer Fulford's body found Sept. 30
  • Judge has ordered a mental evaluation for Nelson

Scott Nelson's attorney said a judge wants to determine whether he competent to stand trial.

"What you want to is you want to ensure that he's competent enough to make the right decision as far as his defense," Nelson attorney Dan Eckhart said. "There's a legal standard. But with anybody that has any demonstrated issues with mental health, if there's any issues whatsoever, then the right call is the one the judge made today."

Eckhart said the mental evaluation could take months.

Nelson is charged for separate crimes but has not yet been charged in Fulford's death.

Fulford, 56, of Altamonte Springs, was reported missing Sept. 27, and her body was found a few days later. She worked as a personal assistant to a Winter Park family.
