More than 1,000 pounds of ready-to-eat beef products sold at Publix are being recalled because they were mislabeled, federal food officials said Thursday.

  • Beef pot roast sold at Publix being recalled
  • Company says package actually contains beef meatloaf
  • Meatloaf contains allergens not declared on label

Sandridge RMH Acquisition, LLC, of Morton, Ill., is issuing the recall of the 1,222 pounds of beef products.

The products are labeled as beef pot roast, but the package actually contains beef meatloaf. The beef meatloaf product contains wheat and soybean oil, which are known allergens not declared on the label.

The mislabeled items were produced and packaged Sept. 6 and include:

  • 15 oz. plastic trays of “Publix homestyle beef pot roast WITH SEASONED GRAVY” with a lot code of 72487338, a case code of 09080/43303, and a "use by" or "freeze by" date of Dec. 4, 2017. They have establishment number “EST. 17789B” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The products were found to be mislabeled Wednesday when a consumer reported buying beef labeled as pot roast when it actually contained meatloaf. Consumers who purchased the products are urged not to eat them but throw them away or return them to the store.
