A teen was critically injured in a shooting in unincorporated Cocoa on Sunday, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a home on South Ridgewood Drive just before 10:30 a.m. after receiving a report of an accidental shooting.

A family member was showing off a recently-purchased firearm to another family member, when it discharged, deputies said. The teen was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Investigators were talking with witnesses at the scene.

The shooting remains under investigation.
