Disney, union agree to extend contract, resume wage talks

Disney World and its largest union were unable to reach an agreement on employee pay Tuesday.

The two parties, instead, agreed to extend the existing contract through Dec. 1.

The Services Trade Council Union, which represents 38,000 Disney cast members, is seeking a gradual pay increase—with the ultimate goal of $15 per hour.

The union has been in wage negotiations with Disney since August.

“All of our Cast Members earn nearly $2 more an hour than Florida’s minimum wage—and on average, our full-time STCU Cast earn over $13 an hour, including overtime and premiums,” Disney said in a statement. “We agree our Cast Members deserve a raise, which is why we’ve offered an increase of up to 5 percent over the next two years for most existing Cast Members.

Last week, hundreds of Disney employees held up signs asking for a raise during a rally outside the resort.

Talks with union representatives will resume Nov. 28, according to Disney.
