SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. has announced it's cutting 350 positions effective Wednesday.

  • SeaWorld cutting 350 positions across company
  • Not filling open positions
  • Layoffs are part of cost-saving initiative

Positions across the company will be affected, with most of the layoffs happening at SeaWorld’s corporate headquarters and certain theme parks.

Most of the cuts are administrative positions and jobs that don’t involve direct guest interaction.

The company also said it wasn’t filling open positions.

Employees being let go will receive severance benefits and outplacement assistance, according to SeaWorld.

"We do not take this task lightly," a SeaWorld spokesperson said in a statement. "It is an unfortunate, but necessary, consequence of the restructuring that some positions will be lost. For those employees, we are offering severance benefits and outplacement assistance to help with their transition."

The cuts, according to SeaWorld, are part of a cost-saving initiative.

The layoffs will not impact SeaWorld animal rescue and rehabilitation initiatives.

"We remain committed to creating world-class guest experiences, providing comprehensively for the care of all our animals, and continuing our company’s focus on stranded marine animal rescue and ocean conservation initiatives," the company said in a statement.

SeaWorld has struggled in recent years with declining attendance and revenue. In an August report, the company reported that revenue and attendance had fallen in the first half of the year.

“While we are making progress in key areas of our plan, we are not satisfied with our results for the quarter,” SeaWorld president and CEO Joel Manby said.
