Marion County authorities are trying to identify human remains found Oct. 13 in Chatmire, just north of Dunnellon.

  • Rachel Campbell was last seen Aug. 4
  • Human remains were found Oct. 13 in Chatmire
  • Investigators have asked for Campbell's hair to compare DNA

The remains were found in a vacant lot near 19897 SW 107th Lane.

Chatmire is the same area authorities say 27-year-old Rachel Campbell was possibly heading to after leaving her Dunnellon home.

Campbell hasn't been seen or heard from since Aug. 4, and her family is concerned the remains could be hers.

"It's chaotic. The worse thing is the unknown and the late nights, just scared for her. Our family's been upside down about it," said Amber Williams, Campbell's older sister. "We're just ready to have peace, whether we identify the body and it is her and we can just lay her to rest, or hoping we can bring her home. Either way, we just need to have answers."

William says Campbell turns 28 years old in December and has three boys.

"She's a free-spirited person, she's very kind, always has a smile, she's very easy to get along with. But I don't think that she would know that she was in danger if she was," said Williams.

Williams says investigators have asked for some of Campbell's hair to test and see if the DNA matches the remains.
