A Volusia County deputy was arrested Saturday evening after a domestic incident with his 16-year-old son, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Robert Rahn, 50, was charged with one count of domestic battery by strangulation and one count of child abuse without great harm after the incident at his home in the DeLand area.

Authorities said Sgt. Rahn and his son got into an altercation around 6:10 p.m. Saturday. Rahn's son told deputies a verbal argument escalated when his father pushed him down onto a couch, punched him in the face and put him a headlock. The teen said Rahn also put his hand over his mouth and nose until he lost consciousness. 

Rahn was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail without incident Saturday evening, and has been temporarily placed on paid administrative leave as a result of his arrest.
