A 70-year-old Orlando man is dead in a two-car crash in east Orlando.

  • 1 person dead, 1 in critical condition in crash
  • Truck hit a Honda Civic, sending it into a retention pond
  • Witnesses tried to save the victims

The crash happened on Colonial Drive and Amber Road in Orange County.

Troopers say the front of a GMC pickup truck hit the back of a Honda Civic. The Honda spun clockwise and went backwards into a retention pond. Several people jumped in and tried to pull out the two people in the Civic.

"I immediately take off my tennis shoes and everything else and jump into the lake trying to rescue some of these people inside the car," said Andy Wilson Rivera Lopez. 

Lopez says he took an axe and tried to break open the windshield.

"I cut my hands when I was underwater searching for these people, when I was searching for this family," said Lopez. 

Jesus Aucaquizhpi died at the hospital and a female who has not yet been identified is in critical condition. 

Trooper say charges are pending against the driver of the pickup truck, 52-year-old Charles Dunn.

Dunn suffered minor injuries.
