UCF police are urging students to watch out for a possible bear on campus.

Police say they received a report of a Florida black bear near Knights Plaza, and posted a picture on social media.

Knights Plaza is on the northern part of campus, where the campus sports venues are located, along with several dormitory buildings, shops and restaurants.

Now is usually the time bears will prepare for hibernation season, so they are willing to travel further to find food.

UCF police say if students spot the bear, they should call 911. Students should not turn their backs, play dead, climb or run, and avoid direct eye contact, as the bear could see that as aggression.

Police say students should back up slowly until they are in a safe place indoors, speak in a calm, assertive voice, and make no sudden or abrupt movements.
