Ophelia has now increased to a Category 1 hurricane out in the Central Atlantic. It is our 10th hurricane of the season.

Ophelia is located about 760 miles southwest of the Azores Islands, with winds sustained at 75 mph and higher gusts. The central minimum pressure is 990 mb. It is currently moving east at 3 mph.

Hurricane Ophelia is expected to slowly move east the next couple of days in favorable enough conditions to maintain hurricane status. This weekend, Ophelia will pick up speed to the northeast and move into some cooler waters. Ophelia will likely become post-tropical early next week, and could impact parts of western Europe.

It will NOT be a threat to the U.S. at any point in its lifecycle.

Elsewhere in the Atlantic, no tropical formation is expected in the next five days.
