Dodd Anthony Mitchell, 55, has been charged with sexual battery of a person under 18 years of age while in custodial authority, deputies stated in a press release.

Last week, deputies started an investigation into Mitchell after getting information he had a sexual relationship with a former student between 2014 and 2016 while he was employed at the school, the sheriff's office stated.

However, the Brevard Public Schools told News 13 that Mitchell's last day at Astronaut High School was on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, but did not say how or why he left.

Mitchell's uncomplete profile page does appear on the school's website.

The Brevard Public Schools told News 13 that it would release information about the situation sometime on Wednesday.

Mitchell is being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex with a bond of $250,000.
