A person of interest in the death of Jennifer Fulford was arrested in Jacksonville on Sunday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Scott Edward Nelson, 53, was found at the Sunshine Inn on New Kings Road by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's Criminal Apprehension Unit.

Additional details of his arrest were not immediately available.

Fulford, 56, of Altamonte Springs, was reported missing Sept. 27. She worked as a personal assistant to a Winter Park family.

"Our hearts are broken, but we are encouraged that the perpetrator of this heinous crime will now be brough to justice," said the Berman family in a statement.

According to Fulford's husband, she was supposed to fly to Dallas the next day to see her newborn grandchild, but she was reported missing last Wednesday. Her body was found in a wooded area along Apopka-Vineland Road in Orange County on Saturday.

Fulford’s death is being investigated as a homicide. Police have not released a cause of death.

Winter Park Police released surveillance photos of Nelson using Fulford’s bank card at an ATM.

Several law enforcement agencies joined in the search for him.  

Nelson has an extensive criminal history. He is on federal probation for bank robbery.
