Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day across the country.

The day celebrates the life and legacy of one of the nation's greatest champions of racial justice and equality. The holiday was observed for the first time in 1986.

The Central Florida area is hosting a number of events.

A free breakfast will take place today from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the South Ormond Neighborhood Recreation Center, located at 176 Division Avenue.

Also, there is an MLK Day of Service to help homeless LGBTQ youth in Central Florida.

In conjunction with celebrating the life and legacy of the slain civil rights icon, the day also has come to highlight a day of service to local communities.
