Acting on complaints of drugs sales out of a Deltona home, a suspect was arrested on charges of distributing cocaine, heroin and marijuana — including more than five pounds of marijuana that was stashed in a child's room.

  • Deputies found cocaine, heroin, marijuana inside Deltona home
  • 5.5 pounds of marijuana found in a toddler's room, deputies said
  • $60,000 in cash found in a cooler in attached garage

Deputies pulled up to a home on Leeward Drive at about 11 a.m. Wednesday with a search warrant. The suspect, 42-year-old José Ramon Hidalgo, was secured in handcuffs, and a woman and two children were brought out of the house to a couch in the garage.

Deputies found about 5.5 pounds of marijuana packed in vacuum-sealed bags in a toddler's bedroom. In a backpack at the bottom of the closet, deputies found three digital scales and six glass mason jars of marijuana.

Deputies found three loaded firearms and $1,100 in cash in the master bedroom. In an attached garage, deputies found more large bags of marijuana, as well as smaller bags packaged for sale, deputies said. A cooler containing bundles of cash totaling $60,000 was also located.

In addition, deputies found 2 grams of heroin and 16 grams of cocaine packaged in small bags, a report states.

The investigation began in October when a tip came into the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. Investigators started to monitor the home.

Hidalgo, who told investigators that he's a self-employed handyman, was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hidalgo was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail and released early this morning after posting $18,000 bond.
