Clint Johnson said DeBary City Council is in violation of its own rules for pushing back the mayor's race.

  • DeBary City Council wants to hold the election later than what the rules allow
  • Clint Johnson said this is in violation of city charter rules

The former mayor of DeBary will have to wait a few months to try and regain his seat. Clint Johnson was removed from office last month after fellow council members found he was violating city charter rules.

Johnson vowed to run for re-election.

The city charter states an election must be held within 45 days of the mayor's removal.

But officials said the city is choosing to hold a city-wide election, possibly in January.

Johnson told News 13 that would be in violation of city charter rules — the same rules city council members used to remove him from office.
