Police are investigating an attempted kidnapping in the parking lot of a Publix.

  • Woman says man tried to grab her child at Publix in Ormond Beach Monday
  • Woman was putting one child the car when she saw man go for toddler in cart
  • Suspect fled in a silver car

The incident happened last week at the store on Nova Road just north of Granada Boulevard.

Ormond Beach police say Ariana Williamson was shopping at the store on Monday of last week. She had her two children with her, including a two-year-old in a shopping cart.

While she was putting one of her children in her car, she told police she realized someone was reaching for her toddler in the shopping cart.

She turned around, startling the suspect. The police report says he said "I'm sorry," before who taking off in a silver car.

According to police, that man is described as being between 30 to 40 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, tan-skinned with dark hair and facial hair. He was wearing a white t-shirt.

Police say they sent an all points bulletin on this suspect the day it happened with a partial tag of the car, "D1XJY." But so far, no arrests have been made.
