A precautionary boil water notice for Melbourne water customers has been lifted except for two areas, the city said Friday.

The notice also was lifted for West Melbourne residents and businesses.

Within West Melbourne, the following schools can use drinking water again without boiling it:

  • Central Middle
  • Meadowlane Primary
  • Meadowlane Intermediate
  • West Melbourne School of Science

In Melbourne, the two areas that remain under the boil water alert include the Tampa Avenue area in Indialantic and Spinnaker Point Court in Indian Harbour Beach. The city said it would leave notifications on the front door of homes in those areas.

For everywhere else in Melbourne, the bacteriological survey showed that the water is safe to drink, the City of Melbourne said.

A lightning strike earlier in the week at a Melbourne water production facility prompted the boil water alert for 150,000 people in Brevard.
