Here's the Central Florida weather forecast for the rest of Friday and into the weekend:

Another round of locally strong storms will work across the peninsula this afternoon, with wind gusts over 45 mph, torrential rain, possible small hail or a waterspout off our east coast. Activity will wind down before 10 p.m., with isolated overnight showers still possible.

A stationary front across northern Florida is forecast to remain in place through the weekend, but dry air behind it won’t make it into our area. We’re in a southwest flow again, and the west coast sea breeze will slide east across the peninsula, touching off another round of rain and locally strong storms along boundary collisions.

We’ll keep rain chances at 50 to 60 percent through the middle of next week, with highs in the 80s.

In the Caribbean, Matthew has strengthened to a major category 3 storm. Good news with the trough digging across the southeast: It’ll hold firm into next week and possibly help steer the hurricane just to our east.

A small easterly swell and local windswell mix and wave heights 1 to 2 feet will combine for poor surfing conditions this afternoon. We’ll remain in a moderate rip risk, so be sure to swim near a lifeguard stand. Water temperatures are in the low to mid 80s, and the UV index is a very high 9.
