A discovery was made in Kissimmee Thursday after human remains were found in a wooded area near Osceola Parkway and the Florida Turnpike.

  • Resident says homeless people do live in the area
  • Police said medical examiner will collect bones, determine cause of death

On Friday, crime scene tape still surrounded the wooded area.

A mobile command center from the Kissimmee Police Department remained at the scene overnight. Two police cars were also parked in front of the command center.

On Thursday night, News 13 spoke to an officer on the scene who said the medical examiner should be back sometime Friday to collect the bones and determine the cause of death.

A nearby resident said homeless people do live in the area and he believes there is a homeless encampment in the woods nearby. He has had problems with the homeless panhandling in the past.

At this point, investigators are still trying to determine whether the death is suspicious or how long the bones have been out here.
