The Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning people about certain Samsung top-loading washing machines after reports of explosions.

  • Warning includes machines made between March 2011 and April 2016
  • Top-loading washing machines affected, not front-loading ones
  • Machines can become "dislodged" when washing certain items

The affected washing machines were manufactured between March 2011 and April 2016. The names of specific models were not released. However, front loading washing machines are not affected.

In some cases, the machines may vibrate abnormally, posing a risk of personal injury or property damage when washing bedding, bulky or water-resistant items, according to Samsung.

Samsung recommends people with these washing machines to use the delicate cycle when washing. The lower speed lessens the risk of injury if the washing machine becomes dislodged, the company said.

In a statement, CPSC said it is “actively and cooperatively working with Samsung” on a solution.

This warning comes after a federal class-action lawsuit was filed against Samsung by customers who claim their washing machines exploded during use.

The company is also reeling from reports of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones exploding. The CPSC officially recalled the device earlier this month.
