"We saw a picture of her, and her whole back side was pretty much gone," said Susan Naylor, public relations coordinator with the SPCA of Brevard County. "Her skin was gone."

Sloane was found in the Miami-Dade area on Friday with severe acid burns covering most of her body. SPCA of Brevard County officials were on their way to South Florida within a few hours of hearing about Sloane's condition.

"We like to take special cases that other organizations can't take or don't have the ability to take," Naylor said. "So, a lot of burns, broken bones, like I said, we are known for ones that are hard to place or hard to heal. We try to get them healed and find them homes."

Within the past year, the SPCA of Brevard County had three kittens severely burned by acid, as well as a dog with similar burns.

SPCA of Brevard County said its end goal is to make sure Sloane and hundreds of other animals find the homes they deserve.

"She is the sweetest, most amazing little dog," Naylor said. "Any family that would have her will be the luckiest family."

Sloane still has a long recovery. It will take three to four months before she is completely healed.

The SPCA of Brevard County has set up a donations website to help with Sloane's treatment.
