Orange County is seeing a huge spike in fatal crashes this year over last, according to figures provided by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The chart below lists the number of fatal accidents investigated by FHP troopers from January 1 through September 25 for both 2015 and 2016.

Most Central Florida counties had similar numbers of fatal accidents from last year to this year. However, the difference in number between last year and this year in Orange County significant:

2015: 56

2016: 97

News 13 is joining in the fight to save lives by partnering with the Florida Department of Transportation on its "Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow" campaign.
