The boy will be charged with manslaughter in the death of Journee Blyden, who died in June from severe head trauma.

The maximum penalty on that charge could mean he would stay with the Department of Juvenile Justice until he is 18.

The boy appeared in court Wednesday morning and pleaded not guilty.

A detention hearing will be held Friday morning to determine whether he remains in a juvenile detention center.

Note: Per News 13's crime guidelines, we are not disclosing the name of the 10-year-old boy because he is a minor.
