A group in St. Cloud is seeking help to honor a horse that lent a helping hoof to people with disabilities and those recovering from injuries.

  • The horse was part of the Equestrian Therapeutic Center

Kelly Foster, an 8-year-old with cerebral palsy, and Kelly Smith, a combat veteran who lost an arm, have one thing in common -- Seemore, a therapeutic horse who has helped to change their lives.

“Seemore is the best horse in the world,” Foster said.

For many years, Seemore carried wounded veterans across the Silver Spurs Arena; he also carried children and adults with disabilities all the way to the Special Olympics.

But Seemore was too old to continue his work and passed away.

“Without Seemore and this program, I would just be at home on the couch and finding an argument with everybody,” Smith said.

Those who love Seemore are asking others to pitch in and help memorialize his work with a $5,000 statue. The life-size statue of Seemore will be placed at the Equestrian Therapeutic Center.

And it won't just commemorate him, it will also have plates to include the names of other horses who have served here.

Foster says she owes Seemore for stronger legs. Smith says Seemore gave her a new outlook in life.

“And the many people he has helped and he was there for," Smith said. "And for you to be able to remind yourself there’s light at the end of the tunnel and Seemore is the reason you found your light again.”
