The campaign says it has achieved ballot access in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

It's a big milestone for the campaign. It's been 20 years since a third-party candidates has reached the ballot in all 50 states.

"Gaining ballot access in all 50 states and the District of Columbia is a monumental task, as evidenced by the fact that we will be the only ticket other than the Republicans and Democrats to do so," Johnson said in a statement released Tuesday. "Thousands of volunteers, thousands of contributors and activists on every state made it happen.”

For minor party candidates, ballot acess can be complex. Different states have different rules, and some are stricter than others. Voter registration can play a big part.

Johnson was already expected to be on the ballot in Florida, which has easier rules when it comes to third parties.

The other major third party candidate, Dr. Jill Stein of the Green Party, has ballot access in 44 states and the District of Columbia. They are attempting to get on ballot access in 48 states and DC, either on the ballot or as a write-in candidate.
