Anna Shen, a 13-year-old Leesburg native, is this week's Everyday Hero.

Anna said for her Bat mitzvah, she had to come up with a community service project. So she started "Life in a Bag" to meet the daily needs of the Central Florida homeless community.

"I see them all the time in Leesburg when I drive places with my parents, and they always have signs for needs," Anna said.

Each bag is filled with $18 worth of basic items. With the help of friends and family, Anna has packed about 100 bags and still has more to do.

Firefighters are helping Anna with her mission by handing out the bags to the homeless.

"It makes me feel good, because people are getting things they might need," Anna said.

The City of Leesburg plans to honor Anna as a "Home Town Hero" during the city commission meeting Monday.
