The attacks of September 11 had a huge impact on Central Florida.

  • September 11 attacks, 15 years later
  • Local law enforcement say the attacks taught them a lot about response
  • Changes in technology help during the Pulse nightclub shooting

Local law enforcement agencies say they learned a lot from the response on that day, including information that helped them when responding to the Pulse nightclub shooting.

“We learned a lot from the response on September 11, which assisted us in better responding to numerous crisis in our community,” said Sheriff Jerry Demings. “In fact, because of September 11, we were able to respond and execute our emergency plans on June the 12 this year."

Agencies had trouble communicating with each other on 9/11, hampering their response efforts.

Demings says changes in technology driven by the attacks 15 years ago helped the collaborative response effort at Pulse this summer.
