The Groveland City Council voted Friday night to place the city manager on paid administrative leave.

  • Groveland council voted 3-2
  • Mayor Tim Loucks called for Redmond Jones to resign
  • Controversy surrounding police department cited as one reason

Groveland mayor Tim Loucks called a special meeting after Redmond Jones refused to resign earlier in the week.

After more than three hours of discussion and public input, council members voted 3-2 to place Jones on paid leave.

The continued controversy surrounding the Groveland Police Department has been cited as one of the reasons Jones has been asked to resign.

According to a 27-page report released by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, investigators found repeated violations of the Officer’s Bill of Rights, disorganized internal affairs case files and even illegal drug use.

Groveland’s police chief Melvin Tennyson said he is aware of the allegations, but believes there are inaccuracies in the report.

During Friday’s meeting, council members agreed to wait until October to vote on whether to fire Jones.

That meeting will be held Friday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. at the Groveland at the Groveland Community building on South Lake Avenue.
