With a tropical storm "brewing," chances are that outdoor activities such as a day at the beach or hiking aren't part of your weekend plans.

That’s not a concern in Winter Garden.

  • The Plant Street Market is in Winter Garden
  • Indoor area features brewery, farmer's market
  • Diners can enjoy sushi, baked goods, pizza at various restaurants

"One of the beautiful things about this site are these 100-year-old oak trees,” hints Jared Czachorowski of the Crooked Can Brewing Company.

In the downtown area of this Orlando suburb awaits a destination that's perfect for a rainy day in an old spot.

"One of the important things for us was to have a building that looked like it had been here for 100 years,” said Czachorowski of the idea inspired at 30,000 feet.

"That plane ride back to Orlando from Denver, we said, 'We're starting our own brewery,' ” Czachorowski recalled.

And he did just that, with a little help from friend Kent Waugh.

"In a sense, it's a dream come true with this setup,” Waugh said, pointing to the towering stainless steel tanks over his shoulder.

The Plant Street Market is home to the Crooked Can Brewing Company. Imagine an indoor farmer's market mixed with a brewery.

"Here is a place you can come and try a different style of beer, experiment and learn craft beer,” lead brewer Waugh said. More than a dozen craft beers are made right on site.

"These recipes are little babies in a sense,” Waugh boasted.

Besides the Crooked Can Brewing Company, the Plant Street Market is also home to coal fire pizza and meatballs, a farm-to-table diner, a bakery, sushi bar, a specialty tea shop and fresh ground coffee.

"We have an amazing coffee place where they roast their own beans on site,” Czachorowski said.

If a tropical storm were to knock out the power, you could grill out outside with what you can find from the butcher shop.

"Big steaks, they do their own sausages, some of their sausages they mix with our beer we provide,” Czachorowski said.

Call it an indoor feast for the senses. And when the sun does come back out, the patio is popular and dog friendly.

"It's a place where you can really hang out and relax,” Czachorowski said.
