It was a unique meet-and-greet with students before school starts next week.

Teachers at Legacy Elementary School, the principal, even the school mascot, Leo the Lion, got out of the classroom and onto a bus Thursday morning to hand out pencils and fliers reminding students that orientation is on Tuesday, August 9.

Assistant Principal Michelle Cino says they called parents the night before to let them know they would be riding around.

"Just let them know that everyone's excited about seeing them again and get them excited about coming back to school," says Cino.

Even in the rain, parents and kids waited to see some of their favorite teachers.

"Summer flew by fast but they're really excited, like really excited, they can't wait to start," said parents Chelsea Cowart.

Marion County Public Schools start Wednesday, August 10.
