Florida's registered voters have turned out in much larger numbers to cast their ballots early than four years ago, according to preliminary numbers from the state Division of Elections and county Supervisors of Elections.

In Orange County, 27,765 ballots were cast during the early voting period, which ended Sunday. That's more than a 50 percent increase from the last presidential election in 2012.

Almost 54,000 Orange residents voted by mail. In all, 81,668 ballots were cast before Election Day on Tuesday.

Seminole County saw almost 11,000 people vote during the early voting period, a 3,000-vote increase compared with 2012. Another 24,890 voted by mail, though those numbers do not include mail received over the weekend or Monday, Supervisor of Elections Mike Ertel said.

Across the state, almost 2 million Floridians have cast their ballots for this year's primary. Florida has almost 12.4 million registered voters.

Although the numbers are unnofficial, they provide insight to the counties to begin assessing voter turnout as they prepare for Tuesday.
