The low pressure area we’ve been following for over a week has developed a closed circulation near the north coast of Cuba and has been designated Tropical Depression 9.

The system should move to the west into the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, wind shear should decrease. TD 9 is forecast to become a tropical storm in a day or two.

After that, a upper level trough will come along and turn it back toward the east.  This could bring it across Central or North Florida later in the week.  It should be moving faster at that time.

No watches or warnings have been issued at this time. However, that will likely change tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression 8 has formed in the Atlantic and will likely become a tropical storm as it move northwest, according to the latest advisory. It's located between Bermuda and the Carolinas; it's not considered a threat to Florida.

Distant Hurricane Gaston could also send some higher swells toward the east Central Florida coast even though it will be located hundreds of miles away.

Elsewhere in the tropics, Gaston re-strengthened into a hurricane but remains out in the open Atlantic with no threat to land. There are a few other areas showing development, one off the coast of North Carolina, the other just exiting the west coast of Africa. We’ll have the latest each hour at :51 past in your complete tropical update.
